FM, US Secretary of State Discuss in Washington Means to Expand Cooperation on Regional Issues
Minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo discussed on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., the means to expand bilateral cooperation on regional issues, while reaffirming the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.

At this meeting, which was attended by Morocco's ambassador to the Unites States, Lalla Joumala Alaoui, the two officials "affirmed the longstanding strategic partnership between the United States and Morocco and discussed opportunities to expand cooperation on regional issues", Robert Palladino, Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State, said.

Pompeo acknowledged "Morocco's constructive participation in talks with the UN Personal Envoy for the Sahara and thanked Morocco for its resolute efforts to counter Iran's malign influence in the region," he added.

The US Secretary of State also thanked the Moroccan Foreign Minister for his support of Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guiado.

Pompeo and Bourita discussed the upcoming Ministerial to Promote a Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East and noted that it would be an important step toward building a stronger security framework in the Middle East, he said.

These talks took place on the sidelines of Bourita's participation in the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

During his visit to Washington, D.C., Bourita also met with the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, David Hale.
