Torch of Arab Culture Capital Handed over to Oujda

A ceremony for the handover of the flame of the Arab Capital of Culture to the Moroccan city of Oujda was held on Sunday in Luxor (Egypt).
On this occasion, the Arab Cultural Capital flame from Luxor to Oujda was handed by Egyptian minister of Culture, Enas Abdalayem, to Morocco’s minister of Culture and Communication, Mohamed El Aaraj.

The ceremony was held at the Karnak Temple in the presence of several personalities, including president of the Oujda urban commune, Omar Hjira.

The Standing Committee on Arab Culture chose in a meeting held in Casablanca in November 2017 the Moroccan city of “Oujda” to be the “Capital of Arab Culture for 2018”.

The Capital of Arab Culture is an initiative aimed at encouraging cultural exchange and expanding cultural activities in the Arab world.
