Morocco to Invest $40 bln to Develop Energy Sector by 2030

Morocco is implementing an ambitious strategy to develop the energy sector that will require investments of $ 40 billion by 2030, including $ 30 billion for renewable energies, minister of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rabbah, said Wednesday in Casablanca.

As part of the energy transition in Morocco, the share of wind and solar power in the installed capacity, which was only 2% at the beginning of 2009, reached 13% in 2016, Rabbah pointed out at the opening of the first edition of the International Congress of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating.

Morocco attaches great importance to training in the area of renewable energies, through the setting up of a network of training centres in the sectors of renewable energies and energy efficiency, he added.

The minister welcomed the decision of professionals in the sectors of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating to create their association.

The creation of this association will strengthen dialogue between the sector’s professionals and public authorities, he added, noting that his department is ready to provide all the necessary support to develop this sector.

The International Congress of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating brought together some 500 professionals from Morocco and other countries, who discussed the means to develop the sector and to learn about the latest innovations in the sector of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating.
