El Othmani Deplores US Decision to Recognise Al Quds as Capital of Israel

Head of government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, deplored on Thursday the US administration's decision to recognise the holy city of Al Quds as the capital of Israel.

El Othmani, who chaired the weekly cabinet meeting, said that Morocco "has been and will always be a defender of the rights of the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish their independent state with Al Quds Al-Sharif as capital," adding that the holy city is "a red line that cannot be crossed".

El Othmani recalled, in this regard, the message that HM King Mohammed VI sent to US President Donald Trump, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, noting that the Sovereign expressed the concern of the Kingdom of Morocco and of the Arab and Muslim States and peoples and warned against the serious consequences of this decision.

Morocco's stance is clear and unequivocal, as expressed in the statement issued by the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, he said, adding that the Kingdom deplores the American decision that goes against resolutions of international legitimacy.

El Othmani also recalled that in accordance with the high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation summoned Chargé d'affaires of the United States embassy in Rabat and the ambassadors of Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom accredited in Rabat, as member countries of the UN Security Council, in the presence of Palestine’s ambassador to Morocco, to inform them of Morocco’s stance.

This approach, El Othmani noted, reflects the commitment of the Kingdom to supporting the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with Al Quds Al Sharif as the capital.
