MOHAMMED VI – A Satellite Mirrors Visionary Leadership of HM the King, NASA Official

The first Moroccan earth observation satellite " MOHAMMED VI – A", launched on Wednesday by Vega, is a great stride forwards for Morocco's 21st century ambitions and mirrors the visionary leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, said Kamal Oudrhiri, NASA planetary studies official.

This satellite is in line with the coherent, overall vision of HM the King, reaffirms the leadership of the Kingdom at the regional and African levels and promotes the country's status among states possessing the same technology, said Oudrhiri.

The satellite will be used in particular for mapping and land surveying activities, regional development, agricultural monitoring, the prevention and management of natural disasters, monitoring changes in the environment and desertification, he said.

Arianespace, the world's leading satellite launch company, has successfully launched the MOHAMMED VI – A, a satellite developed by the consortium comprising Thales Alenia Space as system prime contractor and Airbus as co-prime.

The satellite was launched from the Guiana Space Center (CSG), Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana (South America).

The satellite separated from the launcher 55 minutes and 33 seconds after liftoff, and was placed in a Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). It weighed 1,110 kg at launch.
