Rabat - The National Museums Foundation (FNM) announced that it has received, on the occasion of 10 years of its creation, a "generous" donation consisting of a large collection of greats of Moroccan painting, offered by patron El Khalil Belguench.

This generous donation is a "token of confidence" in the work done by the FNM, which continues to step up its actions to promote Moroccan culture, both on the national and international levels, and to showcase the important role of patrons in enhancing national museums, according to a statement by the Foundation.

This collection is composed of the works of 38 famous names in painting, including Melehi, Gharbaoui, Hamidi, Belkahia, Kacimi, Bencheffaj, Chaibia Talal, Meriem Meziane, Malika Agueznay, Ben Ali Rbati, Jacques Majorelle, Benyoussef, Miloud Labiad, Miloudi, Yasmina Alaoui, Hassani, Mahi Binebine, El Glaoui, Amina Benbouchta, Afilal, Bendahmane, Louardiri, Hariri, Bellamine, Soly Sissi, Boujemaaoui, Saad Hassani, Mohamed El Idrissi, Ouazzani, Berhiss, Latrach, Bennani and Fakhar.

This new donation completes the collections made available to the FNM by the Academy of the Moroccan Kingdom and the Ministry of Culture. It will provide the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art with one of the great collections that traces the history of Moroccan art, reports the same source.

In 2020, Belguench had donated more than 170 works to form the Villa Harris collection, a museum in Tangier that opened to the public on 17 March.
