World Cup 2026: Morocco is Country That Respects Game Rules,
19/03/2018

President of Morocco's candidacy Committee for the organization of the Football World Cup 2026 Moulay Hafid Elalamy, said, Saturday in Casablanca, that Morocco is a country that respects the game's rules and will lead its campaign accordingly.

"The interests of the Kingdom will be preserved at best in this sporting fight and, in the event of any departure from the rules, Morocco knows how to defend itself," Elalamy added during a press conference, three days after the presentation of the technical file to FIFA in Zurich.

Morocco is competing against the trio USA-Canada-Mexico which also formalized, a day earlier, its candidacy.

Elalamy has deemed sufficient the time until June 13, when the host country's name will be unveiled, to convince the 207 national federations that will decide between the two parties, adding that Morocco's candidacy is positively received.

He confirmed that the budget that will be devoted to the organization of this global event will require no additional "financial" effort by the State, since the implementation of unscheduled projects will represent only 4% of the annual public investment credits by 2026, that is around 2.5 billion dirhams.

The global budget required for the organization of the World Cup will amount to $ 15.8 billion, of which 3.2 will be injected by the private sector, he said, emphasizing the achievements that will be made in terms of infrastructure, employment and global dynamics if Morocco was designated.

It includes the construction of 21 hospitals meeting international standards and 130 training sites, as well as the creation of 110 thousand jobs annually as of the date of designation, added Elalamy who is also Minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy.

Regarding the stadiums that will host the World Cup games, he said that Morocco has made fourteen proposals to FIFA which will pick 12 of them.
