Groundbreaking Ceremony of the New Moroccan Embassy in Washington, DC

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Dr. Saad Eddine ElOtmani kicked off, on March 15, 2012, the groundbreaking of the new Moroccan Embassy building, in Washington, DC.

This formal ceremony was marked by the presence of US Deputy Secretary of State Mr. Thomas Nides, the Ambassador of the United States to Morocco Mr. Samual Kaplan, the Ambassador of Morocco in the US Mr. Rachad Bouhlal as well as other high officials from the State Department and the office of the Mayor of DC.

In a joint press statement marking this occasion, Mr. El Otmani stressed out that the new chancery will further consolidate the long standing relations between the United States and Morocco and will better serve the Moroccan Nationals.

The Minister noted with satisfaction that the construction of the new compound will also provide a convenient framework for the staff of the Embassy to accomplish their duties.

For his part, Mr. Thomas Nides believed that the construction of the new Embassy building will mark a new chapter in the relations between the two countries, affirming the strong commitment of Washington to support Morocco on a wide range of issues and bolster the secular and excellent relations between the two countries.

The new Chancery of Morocco will be located at the International Drive in Northwest Washington D.C. It will be built in an area totaling 34,000 square feet.
