Visit of Dr. Saad Eddine El Otmani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation to Washington, March 15-16, 2012

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Saad Eddine El Otmani made an official visit to Washington, DC from 15 to 16 March 2012, and held talks with his counterpart, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other US high officials, in a view of strengthening the privileged relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America.

The meeting’s main focus was to set the mechanisms for regular political consultations on the right track in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation and find ways and means of boosting economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

During the official meeting, Minister El Otmani welcomed Secretary Clinton’s remarks on the recent reforms undertaken by Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI. Mrs Clinton praised the Kingdom’s achievements in the process of democratization, and the improvement of the political, economic and social sectors.

U.S. Secretary of State also commended Morocco’s great leadership and role as non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

The Minister’s visit was also marked by launching the groundbreaking of the new Moroccan Chancery, in Washington, DC. The ceremony was attended by US high officials both from the US Department of State and the office of the Mayor of DC.
